Display Size / Screen Size / Full Screen

  • How much of your screen can/does Medlin use?
    • The main/background of each Medlin program can be used in it's normal size or can be set to fill the entire screen (maximized).
  • Why don't the working screens (Paychecks, Configure, Vendors, Reports, and Customers, etc.) fill the display?
    • By "fixing" the sizes, we can be sure each screen will be legible.
  • How can the working screen size be increased?
    • The size of the working screen can be increased by raising the DPI setting or lowering the screen resolution via Windows Control Panel.

Beginning with Version 4.0 we are limiting the size of the working screens.  Most computer users have moved up to a 1024x768 screen resolution or larger.  We do not want to drop support for 640x480 and 800x600, but needed to make the display bigger while maintaining control of the font sizing (keeping the fonts legible)..

  • Display Resolution Examples
    • 640x480
      • Medlin will appear full screen/maximized.
    • 800x600
      • Medlin will appear full screen/maximized.
    • 1024x768
      • Medlin will default to a size which takes a little more than half of the screen area in most cases.  This is the size we look at every day ourselves, and use it as the basis for designing the "look".
      • You can maximize the background screen to fill your display to block other items from showing around the edges.
    • Larger than 1024x768
      • Medlin is still easily readable on larger resolutions.  In some cases, you may wish to increase your display DPI (dots per inch) to make all programs appear larger on the screen.  Using the highest resolution on our main computer, the Medlin screen is a little more than one fourth of the display in most cases.  At higher resolutions, the monitor needs to be bigger (say 22 inches plus) to maintain a readable size, unless things like DPI adjustments, zoom settings, or other customizations are made.
      • You can maximize the background screen to fill your display to block other items from showing around the edges.
