Downloading / Installation / Registration Key

  • What is the easiest method to install Medlin from the Internet?
  • If I install a newer version over my current version, will I have to reenter my data?
    • No!  Installing Medlin only updates the program files.  Your data will still be there.
  • HELP!  I have installed the new program but my previous data has "disappeared".
    • Not to worry, your data has not been deleted!  Most likely the new program has been installed in a different folder than the old program.  To find your data:
      • Click Start
      • Click Programs
      • Click Medlin Accounting
      • Click Medlin Accounting (yes, a second time)
      • Click Options
      • Click Find Data on Drive C:
      • Try each of the folders in the list.
  • HELP!  I am sure I have installed the new program but when I click the shortcut I see the old program.
    • The new program has been installed in a different folder (path or directory) than the old program.  ("Folder", "path", and "directory" are different terms referring to a location on a drive or disk.)
      • Open the Medlin program
      • Click 'Help' then 'About'
      • In the version information box, you will see the "Installation Folder".  Make a note of this folder.
      • Install the new program again.  During the setup process, you will be asked for the "Destination Folder".  Select the folder you wrote down from the old program's version information.
  • What should I do if I cannot get Medlin to recognize my registration key?
    • All parts of the registration key must be entered exactly as given.
    • If we misspelled your company name, contact us.  We will correct our records and send you a new registration key.
    • Request us to resend the key
  • What if I lose my registration key?
    • Contact us, and we can reissue the registration key.
  • When do I get my registration key?
    • We process orders every business day.  If you requested the programs on a disk, the registration key will be sent with the disk.  If you ordered using our secure online order form, the registration key will be sent to you, via e-mail, before 4:30pm pacific time.  Note:  You can begin entering your data while waiting for the registration key!
  • How do I reinstall an older version of Medlin?
    • If you need to reinstall a non-current version of Medlin, contact us, and we will send a download link to you.  We will need your name, address, and the programs you need.
  • What does the "install an unregistered program over the existing version?" question mean?
    • This warning message is shown when you are about to install an unregistered version of a program over an existing program.
  • What is the difference between a registered version and an unregistered version?
    • They are the same physical program.  If you do not have a "registration key", the items you print or send from Medlin will have a "watermark" of "Printed/Sent with an UNREGISTERED version of Medlin Accounting".  By using a watermark, we are able to let you try the Medlin programs for free.
  • Can I use Medlin without registering?
    • Yes, please do. We encourage you to take advantage of the "try before you buy" feature, but if you are using Medlin to do your accounting, please register.
  • What does "Shareware" mean?
    • Shareware is commonly referred to as "Try before you buy" software.   Instead of paying for a program before you actually use it, you can try a program first, then pay if you decide to "keep" it.
