Printing / Report
- I am having a problem printing. What should I do?
- There are many possible causes for printing problems. Some of the most common solutions:
- MAKE SURE the desired printer has been selected. Open Medlin. Click File. Click Printer Setup. Select the appropriate printer.
- Reboot the computer, then turn the printer off and back on. Printing takes up a large amount of memory and drive space. Rebooting and resetting the printer will clear many printing problems.
- Delete and reinstall the printer's software. Most printer manufacturer's have their latest printer software available on their web site. During the installation, if you are asked to use the existing files, choose "NO".
- Install a version of the printer software from your Windows CD or disks. The drivers which were released with Windows seem to be more reliable, since they were tested by many more people.
- If the printing looks like Greek writing, no matter which font you select, and you have already reinstalled the printer driver, you should reinstall the Windows fonts, using your Windows CD or disks.
- Use an alternate driver. If you are using a laser printer, install and try the HP LaserJet II driver. If using a jet printer, try a lower number driver. If your printer is an 800, try the 700 driver. If using a dot-matrix printer, try the Epson MX-80 driver. NOTE: The Medlin Software Documentation has more information on printing problems and solutions.
- On the Reports screen, why do the period numbers not match the calendar months?
- The period numbers represent the number of times a new period was started in the current accounting year. Period 1 is the first period of the accounting year, period 2 is the second, and so on. If you are on a fiscal year, the period numbers should not match the calendar months.
- In Medlin Accounts Receivable there is no "accounting year". The period numbers represent how old the information is. Period 1 is one period ago, period 2 is two periods ago, etc.
- Why is the report date not what I expected?
- The report date is based on the date of the last entry of the accounting period. If the date of the last entry is January 15, the report date will be January 31, even if it is period 6. If you have two periods with the last entry dated in January, both periods will have a report date of January 31.
- Why is the printing so slow on my dot-matrix printer?
- Windows is a "graphics" (picture) based operating system, while DOS was "text" (number and letter) based. In Windows, what appears as letter or presentation quality printing is actually the printer drawing a picture of the page.
- Can I send the Medlin reports by fax?
- Yes. Medlin can send reports to any "printer" installed into Windows. Select your fax as the "printer".
- Why does the check amount print in the middle of the check?
- For security. When the check is placed in a double window envelope, the check amount will not show through the the envelope's windows.
- Each time I click "Printer Setup", I get an error message. How can I fix this?
- Delete all of the printers from Windows, then reinstall them. The next best choice is to use the drivers found on your Windows CD.
- Delete any item in the Printers folder. This can include a "print to fax" or "print to e-mail".
- During the deletion process, if you are asked if you want to delete the files for that printer, choose "Yes".
- While reinstalling the printer, if you are asked to replace the existing files with the new files, choose "Yes".
- To delete printers, click the Windows Start button, then Settings, then Printers. Highlight each printer, then press the delete key on your keyboard.
- To install a printer, click the Add Printer shortcut and follow the on-screen instructions.
